My Atkins Diet experiences have been mixed. I've gone through periods where I've lost some weight, only to gain it
back. I've gone through times where I've started strong, but then got tired of the limited menu and ate "something forbidden" which negates any progress I had made. The lists of approved foods and foods to stay away from must be strictly followed. I was so sick of cheese and eggs I could scream!!
The more I learn about the correct way to eat, the more I understand why the Atkins Diet doesn't work.
If you're removing foods from your diet, you're not learning how to eat balanced meals. The first 2 weeks are impossible to follow unless you stay home. You can't eat out, go to someone's home for dinner or stray from the food list. Any little mistake and you've sabotaged any progress. There are phases and lists and it is very confusing what is acceptable and when!
I think that the secret is NOT to go on any diet...but to learn how to eat. Believe me, you can do it, AND be happy with what you're eating and even the amount!
Once I got on the right track, I lost the weight. No kidding, I lost 45 pounds in 60 days! I feel fabulous and I've kept it off without being "on a diet". Like any mom with kids, we know how to discipline them...but we can't discipline ourselves when it comes to dieting. You don't have to "sneak" or "cheat" on this program and you can put that money that you wold have spent online to better use. I've also tried some of the other diets:
I tried Weight Watchers. I joined, paid a lot of money each week, counted my points, missed some meetings (which I still had to pay for even though I didn't go) lost some weight, stopped going and gained it back. I would save my points and basically starve myself so I could go out to eat or use my points for pizza and beer. I wasn't learning how to eat, I just wasn't eating because I would need my "points" for an evening with friends or lasagne with my family!
I tried the South Beach Diet. I did lose some weight, but I couldn't stick with it. I was miserable. I gained it back. Really all I lost was a lot of water weight. It was a complete waste of my time. Time I could've spent on a better plan that would've actually gotten me to lose real weight.
I tried the pre-packaged meal plans. They will make you lose weight. However, you just can't make the switch to "real food". The portions are so tightly controlled and the calories are so measured, that you just can't stay on that kind of diet unless someone is making the food and delivering it right to you. What do you do if you're traveling, or no longer want that expense? What about dinners out ? How about having dinner at someone's house...will you bring your own meal? I just couldn't stay on it.
You know what ? And...I'm sure you already really know this. I really searched for that one secret, but I knew the answer all the time...The only way to get weight loss and to keep it off, is to :
Change the way you eat for the rest of your life
Get regular aerobic or cardio exercise
Get regular weight training exercise
